I often get asked for recommendations on resources for those struggling with an eating disorder. Below I highlighted some of my favorite resources for online groups and help lines. I also noted some resources available in the Rochester area.
Rochester:
KMB for Answers - this is a group that holds events for those in recovery, friends/families of those in recovery, and clinicians who support those in recovery alike. They are currently planning a conference for March 8th and are offering scholarships for attendance.
Once Shattered: Picking Up the Pieces (a podcast) - hosted by three Rochester area parents who have lost children, they interview a variety of experts in the field and talk about ways to approach recovery.
Rochester Eating Disorder Association - a Rochester-based organization that offers several different support groups.
WNYCCC - Offers a caregiver support group as well as some groups for those in recovery.
Groups:
MEDA (Multi-level Eating Disorder Association) - There are a LOT of groups listed here that are free and also virtual right now due to Covid.
Center for Discovery - Many great options for both those in recovery and those supporting those in recovery.
Eating Recovery Center - Again, many great options for groups that are virtual.
Eating Disorder Hope - This page does a great job at highlighting groups from a variety of places.
Alsana - A free virtual group for those in recovery.
Help lines:
NEDA (National Eating Disorder Association) - You can call, chat, or text. There is a wide range of time that the these options are open.
ANAD (National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders) - This helpline runs on CST so it's open a little later for those of us on the east coast.
Crisis Text Line - You can text 24/7 to a counselor for support around the eating disorder and a variety of other things.
Hopeline - 24/7 support for those experiencing a mental crisis.
NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) - Text, call, and chat options are available.
